One day, I was put on the spot to come up with a "good" idea for my photography portfolio project. I thought I wanted to work on my theatrical headshot work, but when I explained it to my professor, even I was bored with the idea. Then I thought I'd work on the "Goddess" project. Or maybe a photo essay on Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, my directing project at the time. Or maybe women in sacramento theatre. As I sat there listening to the other projects, I started listing some names. The list was over 25 names long in less than 5 minutes. I let it percolate for a while, then approached my professor. I gave him my three ideas. He ruled out the photo essay as too short a time frame. The goddess project sounded interesting, but when he got to the women in theatre project, he stated, unequivocally, "This is the one. Do this." So, here I am.
I've asked many of the amazing women I know, and some that my friends know, to be a part of this. The invitation list began at about 35 women. It has grown and will continue (I hope) to grow as the semester, and year, wears on. The portfolio project is only 12 images, but this project will not stay contained in 12 images. If you are reading this, I am honored that you've chosen to be a part of this.
